Shingle Creek

Shingle Creek Mitigation Bank

is a 650 acre site located in Osceola County, in the vicinity of Kissimmee Airport.

Shingle Creek traverses the site prior to discharging into Lake Toho. The project involved design of systems to help rehydrate the site and enhance its hydrology, which was severely impacted by recent tree logging and other man made activities. Special weirs and other structures were designed to meet the objective. The site is downstream of a 100 square mile drainage basin and the vast watershed encroached into two counties, which presented many design challenges. Extensive flood control, storm routings and surface water profile models were performed. The first phase of the Bank was approved by South Florida Water Management District in January 2009.
